How do I use the vanilla bean?

Split the bean length-wise and scrape the little seeds and pulp out of the middle.
This is then added to your recipe.
The insides of one vanilla bean can be substituted for 1 tsp of pure vanilla extract.

What do I do with the vanilla pod after I have split it and used it?

Let the pod dry for a couple of days and then put it in a small jar of sugar and seal it.
The vanilla bean will embue its flavour to the sugar and over time you will have a fine vanilla sugar.

What do I do with vanilla beans that have dried out?

Vanilla beans that have become hard due to excessive moisture loss and age
can be re hydrated by enfolding them in a (very) slightly damp towel and leaving overnight
